Job Description

Personal Support Workers (PSWs) will provide care to individuals who need assistance as they deal with the effects of aging, injury, surgery, or illness. Please note that this is a relocation position.

As a Personal Support Worker, you will:

  • Assist clients with personal care such as bathing and dressing
  • Provide companionship
  • Take clients for outings or exercise
  • Perform basic meal preparation
  • Perform light housekeeping duties such as washing dishes, taking out the garbage, doing patient’s laundry, vacuuming and dusting
  • Provide respite while the primary caregiver is out of the home
  • Remind clients about their medication
  • Take clients to appointments or shopping
  • Be a part of the client's total care program
  • Act upon delegated tasks as required within your scope of practice

Skills and Experience Required

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with clients, colleagues, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Understand and respect economic, cultural, religious, racial, and gender diversity to provide inclusive and sensitive care to clients from various backgrounds.
  • Proficiency with computer and phone applications
  • Experience in performing advanced, comprehensive health assessments in person or over a telemedicine platform
  • Physical ability to stand, bend, walk, crouch, kneel and reach, ability to lift 50lbs (23 kg)
  • Ability to interact with others in a caring, tactful and courteous manner
  • Excellent problem solving, time management, and crisis resolution skills
  • Exceptional customer service and ability to build a therapeutic relationship with the client

Education and Certifications Required

  • Have one of the following qualifications:
  • Valid Personal Support Worker Certificate from a Ministry of Training, Colleges, and Universities or the Ministry of Education approved program
  • RN/RPN, Paramedic, Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy student with a minimum successful completion of year one of the program
  • Holds a valid certificate as a Home Support Worker (level II or III), Health Care Aide, or Personal Attendant
  • Holds a valid certificate as a Developmental Support Worker
  • Internationally licensed Nurse, Midwife or Physician
  • Valid Standard First Aid and Level C CPR
  • Updated immunization records (including completion of a two-step tuberculosis test within the last 6 months)
  • Clear criminal background check, and Vulnerable sector check are required upon hire
  • Valid G2/G driver's license and access to a reliable car. Candidates without a vehicle will not be considered.

Requirements

  • Vulnerable Sector Check completed within the last six months
  • Submission of proof of three COVID vaccinations
  • TB test completed within 6 months to a year
  • Immunization record
  • Up-to-date CPR and First Aid certification
