RT Medical Job Description

Registered Practical Nurses provide care to individuals who need assistance as they deal with the effects of aging, injury, surgery, or illness.

Please note that this position is for agency staffing support and will be direct at multiple long term care facilities. We are not providing living accommodations at this time.

The role will include:

  • Administering medications and treatments as prescribed by healthcare providers.
  • Monitoring and assessing residents' health conditions.
  • Providing wound care and assisting with dressing changes.
  • Collaborating with other healthcare professionals to develop and implement care plans.
  • Educating residents and their families about health conditions and treatments.
  • Ensuring residents' safety and comfort.
  • Documenting residents' health status and care provided.
  • Responding to emergencies and providing immediate care as needed
  • Performing other clinical duties as required
  • Experience in wound care, IV medications and re-sites, catheter care, compression/VAC, and ostomy care considered an asset
  • Delegate as required within your scope of practice
  • This role will be directly at a long-term care facility

Qualifications

  • Diploma from a recognized RPN program or equivalent
  • Registered Practical Nurse in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Experience working in a long-term care or retirement home setting is considered an asset
  • Physical ability to stand, bend, walk, crouch, kneel, and reach, ability to lift 50lbs (23 kg) independently, ability to assist clients with standing, walking, and sitting; ability to reposition clients in bed
  • Valid Standard First Aid and Level C CPR
  • Updated immunization records (including completion of a two-step tuberculosis test within the last 6 months)
  • Clear Vulnerable sector checks are required upon hire
  • Ability to interact with others in a caring, tactful, and courteous manner
  • Excellent problem-solving, time management, and crisis-resolution skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Valid G2/G driver's license and access to a reliable car. This position requires daily travel of more than 1 hour, so 100% must have a vehicle. Candidates without a vehicle will not be considered.
  • Ability to use phone applications.

Requirements

  • Vulnerable Sector Check completed within the last six months
  • Submission of proof of two COVID vaccinations
  • TB test completed within 6 months to a year
  • Immunization record
  • Up-to-date CPR and First Aid certification
  • Mask Fit
